Madison City Channel 12 Will Keep Spot On Dial

After lots of anger and complaints Charter Communications buckled, and has allowed City Channel 12 to remain on the dial where is has been for many years.  This essential channel for city government has served the public since 1974.  Charter had wanted to move the channel to the digital tier in an effort to make more money.  Public pressure let Charter know exactly what we think of their business decisions.

BTW, ATT should be an option in Madison for cable services by the end of the year!

We are so done with Charter!

Charter announced today that they will “dual illuminate” the public access channels, leaving them on analog at new channels 95..99, at the same time creating the dozen-channel “Public Access Neighborhood” on digital 979..998.

At the time of my writing I was not aware of the PEG matter as it relates to AT&T’s service.

Let me see if I follow your logic. You are pissed off at Charter (me too) because they may move PEG channels. AT&T will serve as a viable alternative yet they offer no PEG channels.

    Am I missing something?

Even if they end up offering PEG channels it will only be 1/4 strength like in other cities. You can zoom to full screen, but no different than zooming a 240 * 180 video on a computer screen.

I think in the end it is just another choice like Obama or McCain.

This may only be a brief reprieve. Charter originally announced moving several channels from analog to digital, including all of the state’s PEG channels. This week they sent out an ambiguous postcard that says they’re only proceeding as planned with the appearance of FSN-WI HD, CW moving to 2, Soapnet to 82, TV Guide to digital 99 – and they said nothing about public access except that you’ll need to watch the mail for future announcements.
