SHOCK: Sarah Pilan Has An Anti-Gay Record (Read Her Own Words)

The well respected Republican insider, James Baker, III, wrote that the best way to put a vice-presidential candidate on a national ticket is to float the name first, and see what reaction it creates in the nation.  That process allows for smoother political conventions, and easier for a party to shape the message.  Though Baker did not add, but surely knew, that process also allows for less of a stink when the nominee is less than qualified, as in the case of Alaska Governor Sarah Pilan.  Had Baker’s advice been followed no one would have ever heard of Pilan outside of the far northwoods.

However, as Sarah Pilan was clearly not properly vetted by John McCain, no matter what the campaign says to the contrary, it is incumbent on us to bring up all the various issues less they fall through the cracks. (This blog has made it a point to cover many of her controversial issues, such as baning books.)

The latest one that needs the light of day to shine on it, is the issue of gay rights.  Though it should come as no surprise that a conservative Republican would be against gay rights, it still should be known, from Ms. Pilan herself, how she feels on these issues that do confront many of the very voters she hopes to work so damn hard for (snicker) in Washington.

Sarah Pilan’s answers are of course repulsive, and proves again that her breadth of experience and knowledge about all those that make up this nation are sorely lacking.  Ms. Pilan’s inability to place herself in others life experiences is a major flaw for this person who wishes to have so much power.  It is one of the basic rules of politics to understand that when elected one needs to work for all the people.  It is clear from these remarks below that she has no desire to work for a more fair nation for gay Americans.  Typical conservative Republican.

Palin Opposed Supreme Court Ruling Giving Same-Sex Couples Benefits: Asked if she would support the Alaska Supreme Court’s ruling that spousal benefits for state employees should be given to same-sex couples, Palin responded, “No, I believe spousal benefits are reserved for married citizens as defined in our constitution.” [Eagle Forum questionnaire]

Palin Opposed Expanding Hate Crimes Laws: Asked if she would support an effort to expand hate crime laws, Palin responded, “No, as I believe all heinous crime is based on hate.” [Eagle Forum questionnaire]

Palin Said She Supported Ban on Gay Marriage and Denying Benefits to Gay Couples: “Palin said she’s not out to judge anyone and has good friends who are gay, (does she have a Sammy Davis, Jr. album as then she could say she likes blacks too… deke’s comment) but that she supported the 1998 constitutional amendment [to ban gay marriage]. Elected officials can’t defy the court when it comes to how rights are applied, she said, but she would support a ballot question that would deny benefits to homosexual couples. ‘I believe that honoring the family structure is that important,’ Palin said. She said she doesn’t know if people choose to be gay.” [Anchorage Daily News (Alaska), 8/6/06]

Palin Said She Supported a Constitutional Amendment Overturning Supreme Court Mandate of Benefits for Same-Sex Couples: Asked if she would support a Constitutional amendment to overturn the Alaska Supreme Court decision mandating public employers to provide benefits equivalent to same-sex couples, Sarah Palin responded “yes.” [Alaska Family Council Voter Guide, 8/22/06]
