This is why a complete vetting process of Sarah Palin needed to be undertaken by the John McCain campaign. The voting public needs to know what type of person is asking for the power to run the nation. There is NO WAY that a proper and complete vetting of Palin was done, so how can we trust McCain to properly vet cabinet members, or those who wish to sit on the Supreme Court?
As my readers know I do not cotton to the notion of breaking marriage vows. Period. As I have said here on this blog even liberals like myself can be prudes…..and I am fine with that label.
John McCain’s campaign is denying a tabloid report that vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin had an extramarital affair. “It’s a vicious lie,” spokesman Steve Schmidtsaid. The campaign is considering legal action, Mr. Schmidt added. The National Enquirer reported that Ms. Palin had an affair with a business associate of her husband, Todd. Mr. Palin discovered the infidelity and dissolved the business, the article said. It attributed the allegation only to “an enemy” of the Alaska governor. “The smearing of the Palin family must end,” Mr. Schmidt said in a prepared statement.
A former journalist and dog musher had this on Alaska Abroad.
My sources in Alaska say the incident occurred in mid 1990s, right around the time she became mayor of Wasilla. Todd Palin’s partner in a Polaris snowmachine dealership in Wasilla, Brad Hanson Hampton, and Sarah were reportedly flirtatious and but never consummated the relationship.
So on many levels I am disgusted with the stories that are everywhere today about the alledged affair that Sarah Palin was to have been involved with.
On the heels of their outing John Edwards’ affair, the National Enquirer is sticking by claims that Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin cheated on her husband Todd with his former business partner.
Now, Andrew Sullivan over at The Atlantic is claiming the rumored beau’s legal team has filed an emergency order to have his divorce records sealed.
The rumored affair was part of a more intensive cover story which claimed, among other things, that Palin initially tried to cover up daughter Bristol’s pregnancy. Palin announced two days after accepting the nomination to run alongside John McCain that her 17-year-old daughter is five months pregnant.
The National Enquirer was the one that sealed the last nail in John Edwards’ political career. As a strong supporter of Edwards, I found his actions horrible, and I said so.
Likewise, while I hope that these rumors are found to be false about Plain, as the institution of marriage is far more important to me than politics, there are some issues that lead me to think there is more here than we want to think true.
The ex-business partner to Sarah Palin’s husband filed a motion to have his divorce papers sealed after the news broke about the alleged affair. A strange time to make such a request, at least that is how it seemed to this former news reporter. Others also thought this strange.
The Enquirer’s own anonymous source claims: “Todd discovered the affair and quickly dissolved his friendship and business associations with the guy. Many people in Alaska are talking about the rumour and say Todd swept it under the rug.”
The man at the center of the campaign, according to Alaskan Abroad, the blog of an Alaskan journalist, reports that the allegation refers to the time when Palin became mayor of Wasilla in the mid-1990s.
Palin’s husband Todd owned a snowmobile dealership with his business partner Brad Hanson. Apparently Hanson, who was also married, and Sarah got on famously; Alaskan Abroad’s sources say the two were “flirtatious but never consummated the relationship”.
“When Todd found out, he reportedly dissolved the partnership and sold the dealership. Hanson is now a member of the Palmer City Council.”
Brad Hanson is currently a city council member in Palmer, Alaska.
The McCain campaign has gone on record as saying the “affair story” is nothing more than a “vicious lie”.
The latest news from Alaska is that Sarah Palin’s name does not seem to appear in the divorce papers. We can only hope that more evidence comes to light to prove that this affair never took place. However, many are sticking to their stories, and so we will just have to wait and listen. But once a rumor starts, such as saying a Christian candidate for office is a Muslim….well….it can be hard to put the toothpaste back into the tube.
…the 98-page file shows that the Palins are only mentioned in Richter’s sealing request. According to the filing, Richter wanted the documents deemed confidential in a bid to cloak details about his home, workplace, and phone numbers because “reporters and news agencies” were using that information to contact him. Richter, a 39-year-old contractor, noted that he is “friends and land owners in a remote cabin” with the Palins and, as a result, journalists were intruding on the “cabin life and private life” of him and his 11-year-old son. The petition to dissolve the marriage was filed jointly last July by Richter and his ex-wife, who were not represented by lawyers. A judge granted the dissolution less than two months after the couple filed to end their marriage.

Your article seems a little confusing. First you are talking about Hansen having an affair with Palin. Then near the end of the article you quote someone by the name of Richter as asking for his divorce records to be sealed. It is my opinion that this story is gossip. You almost had me until the “Richter” name was brought up. YOU can’t get your facts (if there were any here) straight.

What matters to people beholden to the status quo and who live their lives in fear, is that the ‘right words’ are being said. “Jesus,” “creationism,” “family,” and and “marriage” are among those words twisted into conservative, doctrinal forms which get the votes of those who are fearful of their particular worldview’s frailties.
To imagine people voting for McCain, who has the worst actuarial chance of surviving his first term of any presidential candidate in recent history, simply because his running mate has a vagina, estrogen, and is a (very) conservative Christian, is simply beyond belief.

Actually she was started on the vetting process over 6 months ago. She has been on that VP short list that whole time. Radio talk has been talking about her for some time as well as blogs. There is no garbage in this woman’s past. The affair never happened, but for arguments shake let’s say it did. Lori says it’s okay if you’re a Republican. No it’s not okay, but I believe liberals are the ones who have told us this kind of stuff is private. I remember hearing alot about that while Bill Clinton was having affairs and sexually harrassing women on the government’s time and in places like the Oval Office. And nobody is demanding DNA tests with John Edwards affair. Great leaders have had affairs from the beginning of time. This doesn’t matter in the scope of things.
