Bob Woodward “The War Within”
The build-up for the release of the latest work by Bob Woodward, “The War Within”, was professional as always. The series of books by Woodward about the Bush Administration, the ‘war on terror’, and the Iraq War, are essential reads in my view to better understand the recent times we have lived, and the decision making process in the Bush White House. Woodward is an ace reporter, and always provides a crisp narrative. I am looking forward to reading his latest work.
To complement the release of the book this week, and to provide background material, the Washington Post has set up this site, which has audio segments of the interview Woodward conducted with Bush, along with the Woodward segment from CBS’s “60 Minutes” which was broadcast on Sunday night.

After everything we have witnessed from Bush and Company do you even need to ask……………….?
I would like to hear comments on the Larry King Interview of Bob Woodward last night. He (Woodward) has written a new book, The War Within, which claims that our military has acquired a sophisticated new weapon. This device supposedly can effectively target and kill individual terrorists. Woodward says that although the existence of this new strategy is known, the exact details of its construction and use are top secret. Larry King asked him why Bin Laden is still alive if we have access to such technology. This is where I’m fuzzy. I think Woodward implied that the military would dispatch Bin Laden when the timing was right: just before the elections!
Did I misunderstand him? Such a transparent act of election manipulation, if it were true, would constitute an abuse of power of Machiavellian proportions! It seems too bizarre to contemplate. On the other hand, aren’t Karl Rove and Dick Cheney still hanging around Washington these days?
To add fuel to the speculation, President Bush today announced that some troops (I can’t recall the exact number) originally scheduled to head for Iraq have been reassigned to Afghanistan. This action will no doubt refocus the war on terror back to Afghanistan. But could it all be a ploy to set the stage for the demise of Bin Laden, an event which could influence the presidential race? Or is all this mere conspiracy theory?
