“The Appeal” By John Grisham Timely State Supreme Court Election Drama

With the influx of deep-pocketed players, such as the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce into races for Wisconsin State Supreme Court, comes a whole series of problems and issues that require examination. Now there is a fast-paced and brisk book that every Wisconsinite can read, and enjoy that focuses on these judicial issues. John Grisham in the “The Appeal” provides as the center of his story an election for the Supreme Court in Mississippi where big money and corrupt corporate leaders pervert the electoral and judicial system.
The problems that Grisham raise are sorely in need of thoughtful answers. The consequences of doing nothing has been playing out in Wisconsin over the past two contests for the state court. Without doubt the heavy-handed and moneied interests will appear again on TV leading up to April when voters head to the polls to select a judge.
I have read, and loved every legal drama that Grisham has penned, and while this one has been out in paperback for many months, think that readers of this political blog who also think about these types of issues will find the book a joy.
