Senator Roland Burris Must Resign…Now
One can make a process-oriented step-by-step rationale as to why former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, even after his arrest in December, had the constitutional and legal right to appoint a person to fill the open U.S. Senate Seat. Though there were plenty of reasons for any person to walk…make that run….. in the opposite direction of such a selection, there was no legal reason that a person could not be named and seated. As was the case with Roland Burris.
But what has transpired over the past week, and apparently what took place by Burris’s own acknowledgements over the past months, makes it clear that it is time for the Senator to head home, and resign his seat.
I have a thin skin for actions by any elected or appointed politician that undermines the process of public policy making, or the political institutions that they serve in. Eroding the faith of the citizenry in the government is something that I can not abide.
Therefore it is essential that Roland Burris step aside and resign immediately for the good of his state that has endured enough embarrassment and ridicule due to the unconscionable acts of Rod Blagojevich.
I strongly suspect that Burris will need not add ‘Senator’ to his famed mausoleum wall.
‘Shame’ might be the better word.

You know, it’s scary that politicians are all-too-often missing ethics. When the FBI caught a Massachusetts State Senator and Boston City Councilor taking bribes, the legislature was swift to move — they recommended requiring ethics classes for politicians.
If they are in need of going to classes to teach them ethics at this point… it’s too late.
