Grand Ole Opry Star Charlie Pride Sings For President Obama At White House Tonight

Today is a jam packed day at the White House where country music will be featured. Students will learn about the roots of this defining genre of music this afternoon, and the day will be topped off this evening by a music concert and remarks from the President. The first African-American to join the Grand Ole Opry, Charlie Pride, will be joined by Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss and Union Station for a powerful concert in the White House. Awesome!!


Country Music Hall of Famer Charley Pride has been added to the list of performers for a Tuesday night concert as the White House Music Series celebrates country.
Pride will join Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss and Union Station, 40 W.O. Smith School students and a Lockeland Elementary Design Center student in having an audience with the Obamas in two events on Tuesday.
As part of the White House’s continuing music series celebrating the arts and demonstrating the importance of arts education, Paisley, Krauss and her band will be a part of the afternoon educational workshop “Country At The White House” with 120 middle and high school students from across the country. At the 2 p.m., students will learn about songwriting and about the history of country music and its cousins bluegrass, honky tonk and rockabilly, with Michelle Obama in attendance.
On Tuesday night, Pride, Paisley and Alison Krauss and Union Station will perform for an audience that will include President Obama.
