Video: Angry White Man From Maine At Rally

August 12, 2009

Sorry to all my readers in Maine, as I know this guy is not reflective of the state.  But it is reflective of what wing-nuts are showing up at these rallies on health care.  Love the the NRA hat on the guy.  Wouldn’t it be great if this guy could carry a loaded weapon on his leg too?  You might take note that it is FAUX News that is getting this on tape to further the cause of the angry white men on their channel.

BTW, I wonder how he will vote on the same-sex marriage law in Maine this year.  Being such a well rounded thinker and all, and concerned about rights….I am sure he is for liberties for all…..given that millions fought and died for them…..  Right?

I’m from Maine, and I have to say, this guy is sadly reflective of, at the very least, a large minority of the people here. He is sadly reflective of way too many people in this country. I think this has very little to do with socialism and equality, as this idiot claims, but rather whiners who cannot handle change. People seem to want everything to always remain exactly as they have known it. Their minds can’t handle the fact that their ideal of what the world should be like is not shared by everyone in the world, and they’d rather force us all to do it their way.

He ended his insane tirade by invoking God. How appropriate. Religion poisons everything, as Christopher Hitchens said, and this is just one more example of how religion continues to try destroying the world as it has since humans first tried to explain things they didn’t understand and created imaginary gods. Today, people routinely invoke God for all the intolerance and hatred they can muster.

Here’s an idea: keep religion private and to yourselves, stop using fairy-tale books to support stopping gays to marry, practice the tolerance and sanity of rationalism, and do away with the intolerance and insanity of religion. The world is centuries behind where it should be thanks to religion, and it’s time to bury these horrible limitations that are championed by mentally challenged individuals like this idiot in the video so that we can move forward and finally, honestly refer to our world as “civilization.”

“don’t give up your freedom for safety”–sounds very much like what I heard from the left regarding the war on terrorism. Look, here we have a guy who is very upset. He is afraid. Seems to me like he is also passionate about the country–just like those lefty demonstrators during the Bush years. How about a little of that respect your side asked for then….

Conisder this: we have a sitting congress that passes thousand page bills without reading them. We have endless versions of healthcare reform floating around, none of which actually appears to be written by Obama. We have senators and representatives who will not answer direct questions about the legislation like Gwen More who only read the section titles of the bill. Facing uncertainty like this, it is the job of the government to provide clarity, in writing, and time for slow and careful deliberation. To me it seems like many of the details of the proposed reforms are to be determined later by “the people who live under the stairs”–some unknown government entity. Don’t you worry that when a republican president appoints those members to a health oversight board that they might decide that we waste too much money on aids drugs and complications which result from the tragic disease?

Sure, the guy in the video does not strike me as Thomas jefferson, but he cared enough to be there.

I think it is wrong, however, to label him a teabagger or suggest he would be against same sex marriage or imply he is a reason we need gun control. In these aspects your commentary is pretty weak. With all due respect, you are a gifted writer and talented blogger, but you sometimes fall victim to the same partisan rhetorical “gotcha” game that demeans so many of the otherwise powerful rightwing blogs. Like them, these cheapshots and intellectually weak attacks prevent this blog from being as convincing as it otherwise might be. I’m just saying this because like many other wisconsin conservatives I come here to see what’s up with the left. But the left already agrees with you. Are you interested in making converts, or is your purpose merely cheerleading?

Lastly, these days it seems like all news is faux news, covering controversy rather than the details of the reform legislation.
