How Did A Rifle In Waushara County Become A Plaything For Kids Ages 5 To 17?
This is troubling, and very sad. This happened in the county where I was born and raised.
Where were the parents? Why was a rifle unlocked with ammuntion in the home? There are many questions to be answered, and as painful as it might be, the parents need to be held responsible for the weapons that they had.
Shane L. Zweck died after receiving a gunshot wound at a Wisconsin Street residence in the village of Redgranite Tuesday.
The Waushara County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call alerting them someone had been shot at the residence shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday. The initial investigation showed several young people between the ages of 5 and 17 were at the residence and Zweck had received a gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to a press release issued by Waushara County Sheriff David Peterson.
A long barrel rifle used in the shooting was recovered from the scene. All individuals present were identified.
Waushara County Coroner Roland Handel pronounced Zweck dead at the scene.
Detectives from the Waushara County Sheriff’s Office are investigating. Crisis workers from the Waushara County Department of Human Services will be working with school staff to provide services for those individuals involved.
