Last Weekend Of Summer 2009 Pictures
It is hard to believe that this is the last weekend of summer of 2009! It feels like September just rocketed away, perhaps in part due to a late Labor Day weekend. Though we had plenty of warm weather to enjoy these past weeks it is no secret that the fall rains and cool temperatures are nearing.
In spite of a cool July that hampered the growth of the tomato plants things picked up with speed in August. Over the past weeks the plants have burst forth with lots of produce. Pineapple tomatoes that are so colorful inside and out with the red streaks that line the yellow fruit to the zebra green, along a variety of red ones all combine to make for the kind of bowls of flavor at meal-time that I have known since a boy.
So as we prepare to bid farewell to summer a few shots of two of my favorite things to grow in summer. Tomatoes and sunflowers. (Did anyone really think I would not find a way to sneak another sunflower picture into the mix?)
