Republicans In A Box on Health Care At White House Summit
This is what happens when the GOP starts to believe their own press releases.
On Thursday President Obama will host a bi-partisan group of legislators at the White House to deal with the thorny issue of health care reform legislation. The Republicans have groused that the meetings on health care have not been ‘open’, so the session this coming week will be televised live. The GOP can bring all their ideas and promote them. Many of the ideas are the same ones that they were not able to pass when they held a majority in Congress, and also had a Republican President. The GOP wants to start from scratch, which is a not-too-clever way of saying they have no interest in a bill. The Democrats who are in power and constructed a bill have rightfully rejected such a ploy.
Which brings us to the GOP that is about to be made fools of for falling into their own trap. Sometimes politics is best left out of the hands of those who talk more, but know less. (Congressman Cantor.)
So the Republicans have two options. Boycotting the summit would allow the Democrats to paint the party as obstructionist. Attending and rejecting a proposed compromise could have the same result.
Batter Up!
