Sunday Echoes: Fred Astaire “Puttin’ On the Ritz”

February 21, 2010

This past week most of America was fascinated with the figure skaters that made the 2010 Winter Olympics one of the most impressive things to watch on televison.  I think most viewers that were glued to the TV applauded (silently or otherwise) the skating of Michal Brezina.    He was great!  Brezina made it seem easy, which of course it is not, but which proves how much skill he possesses.  At  age 19 Brezina is a future Olympic star.

The song that Michal Brezina used in his short program was the timeless “Puttin’ On the Ritz”.  As he performed the routine on ice I thought of the true master for dancing his way through the song, and as such present Fred Astaire in this perfectly performed dance.
