Northwestern University College Democrats Can’t Be Serious
I understand that college lectures are to be exciting and news worthy. I have no problem with that. As such I applaud Northwestern University getting the chance to have former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich as a speaker. I would love to attend if I were near the campus.
Having said that however I was seriously shocked when I read the way College Democrats were promoting the event.
“A conversation about ethics and politics is important to have,” said Dan Rockoff, vice president of programming for College Democrats. “There isn’t a better person out there to discuss this than former Governor Rod Blagojevich.”
Say what!
There is perhaps no worse example of ethics and politics not being linked than Rod Blagojevich. The fact that Blagojevich broke the faith that binds an elected official and the citizenry who elected him has been made quite clear. It is for that reason that the disconnect between his actions and the words of the College Democrats leave me troubled.
Lets be honest about the reason Blagojevich was invited. He is a newsworthy character that generates lots of comments that spawns controversy. I have no problem with that, but let us not confuse his political hi-jinks with anything that resembles ethical actions while in office.
