First heard this story break at 5:00 A.M. today on WGN Radio, and followed the reports from the scene. The killings took place, it was reported, at about 4:25 A.M. this morning. At about 6:00 A.M. the Madison, Wisconsin suspect in the killings was caught a good distance away from the scene of the slaughter.
Four people were shot to death and two more wounded early this morning at a Marquette Park neighborhood residence, authorities said. Three of the dead were children–a 7-month-old boy, a 3-year-old girl and a 16 year-old girl, according to sources.
The fourth person was an adult woman.
A suspect, believed to be a relative, was taken into custody several miles away about an hour and a half after the shootings, police said. Another police source said he was on his way to the home of another relative when he abandoned his car and ran two blocks before he was captured.
The two wounded–and adult female and an adult male–were in criticcal condition and taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, a fire department spokesman said.
The shooting was possibly domestic-related said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
The shooting happened about 4:25 a.m. in a brick bungalow in the the 7200 block of South Mozart Drive on the Southwest Side, she said. The victims were found on the first floor.
Ages and genders of the victims were not available. It was not known how many people were in the house at the time and if there were any survivors.
Police had put out an alert for a 32-year-old relative from Madison, Wis., who was taken into custody about 5:49 a.m. at 59th Street and Racine Avenue, police and other sources said. He had abandoned his car at 62nd and Elizabeth streets.
According to a police source, a 911 call was placed by a 12-year-old boy who said his 32-year-old uncle had come from Wisc. with his wife and began shooting family members.
