Pictures: Thank You Isadore Fine For Phenomenal Flower Garden In Shorewood!!

April 23, 2010

By now I sure that anyone who reads the Wisconsin State Journal has been tempted to visit the stunning flower gardens of Isadore Fine in Shorewood.  (Located just off University Avenue in Madison.)  Our neighbors went over this morning and came back to tell us to make sure we visited soon before the bluebells were no longer at their peak.  So after James and I had a meeting fall through this afternoon for our friend with Alzheimer’s we soon replaced that time with one of the most peaceful and amazing times spent in a garden this spring.  While I think we have nice flower arrangements and plantings at our home,  I am now aware of just how much further we have to go to compete with the master,  Isadore Fine.  It is time I learn more about how to terrace the front lawn…………

I want to thank Isadore Fine  so very much for the kindness he has shown to Madison and the surrounding area by opening up his yard and walking paths for the public to enjoy.  The pictures below are just a sample of the beauty and wonder one finds when visiting.

The garden attracted about 100 people on Sunday, said Fine, a 91-year-old professor emeritus of business at UW-Madison.

Fine spends an hour or two once or twice a day watering or weeding the garden. The garden features 35 types of tulips, all direct from Holland through a catalog company.

Fine proudly said a few people have told him that his tulip display is better than that at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. “Theirs is more organized,” he said. “We put ours where we feel like putting them.”

A welcome sign invites visitors into the two-lot garden. The tulips are framed by a sea of mountain bluebells, which right now provide a stunning background for hyacinth, daffodils and a few bleeding heart bushes. Gravel and stone walkways and a few areas to sit allow visitors to take it all in.

Mary Graye and Isadore Fine invite the public (but not dogs) to walk the garden paths at their home. It’s at 3311 Topping Road, on the southeast side of the intersection of Topping and Highbury roads. The entrance is part way down Highbury Road from the home.

Private gardens are always so beautiful. We have one here us called Ecotat Gardens. This garden by Mr Fine is stunning with all the tulips. Wonder how many tulip bulbs have been transplanted by the squirels like at your house. LOL
