Republican Scott Walker Takes Stance Against Arizona Immigration Law

May 15, 2010

Must read this update.

I am totally caught off guard by this news.  I am nothing short of stunned that Scott Walker, Republican candidate for governor, has come out against the highly controversial and unconstitutional immigration law signed into law recently in Arizona.  I am proud that Walker made this move and took a stand.  I really want to better understand how Walker came to his conclusion, and also welcome him to the side of fairness when it comes to the Arizona law.  This just goes to show that one should never label politicians too broadly until all the facts are in.

A conservative Republican running for governor in Wisconsin is taking a tough public stance against Arizona’s sweeping new immigration law.

Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker said in a statement that he has serious concerns about the Arizona law empowering police to question and arrest anyone they suspect is in the U.S. illegally.

His stance was the most definitive of any of the three major gubernatorial candidates, all of whom were asked by the Associated Press about the issue this week.

    Frank,

When Walker spun from being against the AZ law, to supporting it, I knew all I had to find out about Walker. Not that I already had not a great deal of knowledge on the man. That he could not, or would not stand up to the flack that he was getting at the time my post went up this past May shows his lack of spine, and the degree others control his every statement and action. A leader he is not!

This recent comment from Walker via Wispolitics… “I am disappointed by the federal judge’s ruling to block Arizona’s right to enforce the rule of law without interference from the federal government. As governor, I will sign similar legislation to the Arizona Law to ensure the taxpayers of Wisconsin are not paying for benefits like Badger Care and in state college tuition for people who are here illegally.”

Typical disingenuous use of a non-issue to appeal to the knuckle draggers.

I caught the same negative (pro-Arizona immigration law) message in a facebook ad for Walker today. I clicked through and found no further information. From there I clicked out to Walker’s site and found no further information. I used the google to search for “Scott Walker Arizona Immigration” and found the link to your blog post. Someone paid for the outrageous facebook ad that led me here. The lack of campaign documentation providing an underlying position supporting the ad implies to me that the ad itself was willfully misleading, designed to create an impression that appeals to the hatefulness and fear surrounding this topic. It’s a tea party moment for the Walker campaign.

Also could you source for me the place where the Scott Walker message on Twitter was read.

    Thanks.

If this is a true statement from Walker (as posted on Facebook) than there are two problems. He seems to speak out of both sides of his mouth. As noted in the Appleton Post Crescent….

A conservative Republican running for governor in Wisconsin is taking a surprisingly tough public stance against Arizona’s sweeping new immigration law that has generated protests across the country.

Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker said in a statement that he has serious concerns about the law empowering police to question and arrest anyone they suspect is in the U.S. illegally.

“In America we don’t want our citizens getting pulled over because of how they look,” Walker said.

If he pulls back from that statement not only is he wrong on the issue but he also then has a CREDIBILITY problem. And that would be a long-term problem.

Opps look like you spoke to soon Deke. This was posted yesterday on FACEBOOK

    Arizona Immigration Law

“I sympathize with the people of Arizona who are victimized by violence, crime and property damage as a result of illegal immigration. After speaking this morning with the sponsor of the new law in Arizona, State Senator Russell Pearce, I’m satisfied that the amended bill provides adequate protections against racial profiling and discrimination. A police officer may only inquire about the immigration status of persons they have stopped, detained, or arrested for other reasons.

In addition, earlier decisions by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals satisfy my concern about any conflicts with the 10th Amendment. If I were Governor of Arizona, I too would sign the Arizona immigration bill.

As Governor of Wisconsin, I will sign legislation that strengthens our protection against illegal immigration and ensures that taxpayer funded benefits like Badger Care and drivers licenses are not available to those who are here illegally.”

Walker’s toast. I was supporting him. I’m a CONBSERVATION, not R or D. I’ll vote for a truthful honest democrat before I will for a lying false faced republican.
