Conservatives Bitch About First Muslim American Crowned Miss USA
Instead of bemoaning the very idea that we still have sexist beauty pageants in this country, the wing-nuts are angry than an Arab woman with an Islamic belief system won.
In winning the title, Fakih defeated first runner-up Miss Oklahoma Morgan Elizabeth Woolard, who garnered headlines when she responded to a judge’s question about immigration policy by saying that she was “perfectly fine” with Arizona’s radical new immigration law. Just as they erupted over Carrie Prejean’s loss in the Miss USA contest 2009, the right is again alleging a liberal bias against Woolard.
But many more right-wingers are enraged over Fakih’s crowning:
– Conservative radio host Debbie Schlussel blamed Fakih’s win on a supposed “politically correct, Islamo-pandering climate” in America and labeled her a “Lebanese Muslim Hezbollah supporter with relatives who are top terrorists.” [5/16/10]
– Right wing pundit and Fox contributor Michelle Malkin ranted that “Fakih’s cheerleaders are too busy tooting the identity politics horn to care what comes out of her mouth” and that “the Miss USA pageant didn’t want to risk the wrath of the open-borders mob.” [5/16/10]
– Conservative author Daniel Pipes, who was briefly appointed by former President George W. Bush to the U.S. Institute of Peace, opined that “this surprising frequency of Muslims winning beauty pageants makes me suspect an odd form of affirmative action.” [5/16/10]
– Fox News’s Gretchen Carlson complained that Woolard’s “informed opinion” may have cost her the crown, and said that Fakih may have won because we live in a “PC society.” [5/17/10]

While I agree with you that the majority of the Muslim community are no more dangerous than you and two points need to be made here. The people who are doing this using the Koran to try and kill Americans ARE Muslim and secondly you never hear leaders in the Muslim community expressing outrage towards those who do perpetrate these attacks. Ruths comments were not racist nor offensive all she did was point out facts.
I need to point out that your comment is racist and offensive. There is no more connection between all those who follow Islam and 9/11 then there is those who are follow the pope and rape little boys. Or those who loved Jim and Tammy Bakker and those who abuse the tax code.
There is no case to be made for those who follow Islam and the events of 9/11. There IS a case to be made for those who bastardize the Koran and them commit acts such as that which took place on 9/11.
I trust I have made my point clear.
Just remember the event of 911. Most Republicans and Democrats are not real crazy about Muslims after the event in New York City. It could happen again, however, if the pageant is based upon beauty and talent, then there’s not much to bitch about.
This reminds me of the bigotry spouted when Vanessa Williams won the Miss America crown in 1984. My grandfather was not shy about saying it wasn’t right for a black woman to be Miss America. I asked him why not, since she was beautiful, talented and American. He had no response to that, but he didn’t change his mind.
Williams had to give up her crown early due to a scandal over nude pictures taken earlier in her career. However, she went on to have a successful and enduring career as an actress and singer. In hindsight, it seems absolutely ridiculous that anyone thought she was undeserving.
What a shame that they have to sink to such disgusting levels she is a beautiful young lady who deserved to win, just goes to show that ignorance runs on both side of the political spectrum.
Or maybe she is a champion pole dancer.

I don’t think the Donald is going to be too impressed with that.
