Operation Welcome Home In Madison Needs To Be Criminally Charged
The last time I wrote about Operation Welcome Home breaking into a Madison house and setting up a place for squatters to live, I concluded with this sentence.
And there must be criminal charges to make sure a message is sent to quell others who might want to move into a ‘vacant’ property.
To the best of my knowledge criminal charges were not leveled against this group or the squatters when they invaded a home last week on the southwest side of our city.
Today comes news that Operation Welcome Home broke into yet another building based on some anger they seem to feel at Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Well too bad about being upset about financial mortgage policies in the country. Get in line with the countless other law-abiding citizens who have complaints to register.
I come from the old school of thought that when one does not like public policy or those who created it, one becomes involved in the political process to remedy it. What should not be done is to break laws to make a point, such as breaking into an empty building and pretending that new owners can set up a residence because they somehow conveniently found a ‘broken’ back door.
When Operation Welcome Home breaks into a building, as they have now done this week on Turbot Drive, they need to be met with legal repercussions that will make them understand this crap does not, and will not, fly in Madison.
If there had been criminal charges pressed last week I think it may have tempered the mood of those who think commandeering a house they like is just fine and dandy.
Perhaps what Operation Welcome Home needs to consider is taking over a barber shop so that one of their leaders can cut the pony tail and spruce up a bit. But then I think they offer those same services in jail.
Enough is enough with this group!

After reading this I am wondering why not then let the people who lost the home in question just move back in for free? This whole idea of breaking and entering and moving in must be addressed forcefully by the police and I am very upset that they have not been doing their job when they see these law breakers.
Thanks.
This post–at least–is middle of the road. And I agree with your comments here.
