Bus Fire For Grand Ole Opry Star Bill Anderson

June 23, 2010

Thank God no one was hurt.

Bill Anderson and Gregory Humphrey

Though not in that order as seen in photo

The archives here run deep…..

The inside of a bus leased by country star Bill Anderson has been destroyed by fire in Branson, Mo.

Betty Hofer, a spokeswoman for Anderson, said Tuesday that no one was injured because the fire occurred just as he was going on stage Sunday. She said fire officials in Branson blamed an electrical malfunction.

Anderson and band members lost numerous valuables and clothing.

For those seven readers who have never heard of Bill Anderson….(am I not the most considerate blogger in Madison?)

I have been watching the latest episodes of CSI and I think I have pieced this tragedy together. It all started when Jean Shepard was waiting in the van, warming up for her yodeling. She reached such a high note on the last round that it shattered the glass covering the gas lights of the van. The force of such a blast pushed the flames only too close to the drape-covered windows, setting the blaze afire. Connie Smith, who was realxing to the sweet Shepard sounds, tried to snuff the fire out, but mistakenly grabbed one of Porter Wagoner’s Nudie suits, hanging neatly in the closet. You can’t imagine the terror in her eyes as polyester and rhine stones melted in the extreme heat. Little Jimmie Dickens started a bucket brigade but the untrained eye of the Branson visitor and tourist took him for a clown show rather than a serious friend of Whisperin’ Bill, and handed him a bucket of confetti instead of water. The van was, as you might say, doomed from the start.

My heavens! I am glad to hear that no one was hurt or injured. I do hope though that he was wearing his good hair and white shoes at the time of the accident. I hate to see museum-worthy pieces destroyed. We’ll keep Bill and his team in our prayers.
