Rod Blagojevich Retrial Delayed Until April 2011
October 23, 2010
This makes it easier for one in Chicago as he runs for mayor….
Rod Blagojevich’s pared-down defense team won a delay in the former governor’s retrial on Friday, with the federal judge setting the date for April instead of January.
U.S. District Judge James Zagel scheduled Blagojevich’s new trial for April 20 after the defense said it couldn’t be prepared by January and asked instead for a May date.
The new date means the politically explosive trial will come after Chicago’s Feb. 22 mayoral election and potential April 5 runoff — though the judge said that didn’t factor into his decision.
