WGN Radio Needs Bold PR Move To Lure Listeners Back To AM 720

November 16, 2010

I have been thinking a lot recently about what WGN radio might do to convey that they have heard the listeners, and plan to act accordingly.

Therefore I came up with a 30-second PR spot that I bet we all would love to hear on the air.  The wordsmiths could surely improve on the phrasing and such.  But I think WGN needs to make a bold PR move, and get onto a new page.

Here goes….

“WGN radio has heard what the listeners have been saying these past months. We know that WGN radio has been a part of your lives over the decades. We thank you, and value your time spent with us day and night, through good times and bad.

WGN radio wants you to know this place on the radio dial still is a place you can call home.  We want you to be a continuing part of the WGN family.

Therefore we are pleased to announce that once again  (fill in the blank with name of on-air talent) will be returning to the WGN broadcasting family.

This is the first step to show we heard what you had to say.

After all, at WGN radio it all is about a two-way conversation.   We were listening, and now we ask you to tune in and hear more on WGN radio, the talk of Chicago.”

I’m not so sure that’s all that necessary. I know that I haven’t drifted that far from WGN. With the changes they have made in the last couple of days they have TOLD us they are about getting back to our radio home more effectively then any pr announcement. Jarret is livable. Send the 8:30-noon guy down the road… a few other minor changes…all is forgiven.

WGN should do three things right now:
    1) Apologize to Kathy & Judy
    2) Apologize to Steve Cochran
    3) Offer Kathy & Judy & Steve Cochran contracts to return to WGN. Steve Cochran in the morning and Kathy & Judy after that.
