The Cap Times Endorses Marsha Rummel For Madison City Council
Caffeinated Politics also endorsed Marsha Rummel in early March.
Few Madison alders are so thoroughly engaged with their districts as is Marsha Rummel, who was elected to the council after decades of neighborhood and community activism. Rummel’s style is her strength. She is warm and thoughtful, even with those who might disagree; she seeks out advice and counsel and genuinely listens; and while she is a determined progressive, she is never so doctrinaire as to believe that her positions cannot be improved by embracing new ideas and new approaches.
Rummel has struck crucial balances in her district, ensuring that development pressures do not change the character of neighborhoods near downtown. At the same time, she has been one of the steadiest defenders of social services, affordable transportation and open government during council debates — well reflecting the progressive values of the 6th District.
Her challenger, Twink Jan-McMahon, has run a serious and aggressive campaign, but Rummel retains our strongest endorsement.
