Roger Ebert Speaks For Many In America, Jackasses Should Not Drink And Drive
Until yesterday I had never heard of Ryan Dunn, and if I had the moment passed and no memory was made of it. As I write this post I am still not sure what the jackass storyline is all about. Something tells me I will be fine without a full description.
But that is not the point of this post.
Everyone knows by now that Ryan Dunn died in a fiery car crash after drinking what has been described as three beers and three shots within a short time before getting behind the wheel of his car. Dunn also killed a passenger in his car.
No one can be shocked at the results of drinking and driving.
What I do find shocking is that Roger Ebert is taking national flak for commenting on the matter with a tweet that read “Friends don’t let jackasses drink and drive.”
That there is a humorous twist to the term ‘jackass’ in this case seems not enough of a reason to snarl at Ebert. After all, what Ebert stated in his short message is right-on-target.
People that drink and drive are jackasses.
They do not care for themselves and more importantly care not for those they might kill or injure through their reckless and selfish actions.
Below is a picture of the Dunn car…what was left of it. Based on the autopsy results, the crash was so violent, it seems it was impossible to determine if the two died from the impact of the crash itself or from the fire that resulted.
I know we live in a time where frank speaking can lead to calls for trimming the sails and being more restrained. But when it comes to drinking and partying and then piling into a few thousand pounds of metal to race down the highway frank talk is needed.
And Roger Ebert did that with just a few words.
“Friends don’t let jackasses drink and drive.
Caffeinated Politics salutes Roger Ebert’s comment!
