Gas Prices Rocket Up Overnight In Chicago
August 25, 2011
“You might not want to get out of bed this morning. The BP refinery in Whiting, Indiana has been shutdown, while at the same time, another refinery has shutdown in Ohio ANDHurricane Irene might affect refineries on the East Coast!” — Gas/oil expert Phil Flynn tells Greg Jarrett/WGN Radio why the price for a gallon of gas is up over 20-cents since you went to bed last night.
One reason for the price hike is due to refinery woes.
BP began shutting down a comprssor leading to a coking unit at it’s 405,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Whiting, Indiana, on Aug. 23 after discovering a leak, according to a person famiiar with refinery operations. No estimate of repair time was forthcoming.

Can Phil Flynn or Greg Jarrett explain why a problem at a BP refinery caused the price at the local (Yorkville) Shell and Speedway stations to go up more than the BP station?

No sympathy here, from someone who all summer and until the last few weeks was been paying over $ 4.00 a gallon – $ 4.359 for a while to be exact – down to $ 3.799 this week.
