Will (Should) Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Seek Re-Election?
November 20, 2011
In part–
In a case even more analogous to the Giffords case, Charles Sumner, another senator from Massachusetts, was beaten nearly to death on the Senate floor in 1856 by South Carolina Representative Preston Brooks after Sumner gave a speech that ridiculed slave owners as pimps. After the brutal attack, Sumner suffered head trauma, nightmares, and post-traumatic stress, and was unable to return to the Senate until 1859. During his absence, his political enemies called him a coward for not resuming his duties. But Massachusetts believed that his empty chair stood for something as important as his presence — free speech and resistance to slavery. He served in the Senate until 1874.

I agree.
I want Giffords to run again. She is gutsy.
I want her to also fight against guns…though she has been an ally of the NRA… I would hope she could lead a fight for reasonable limitations on guns.
SHE DIDN’T ASK FOR WHAT HAPPEN TO HER. SHE HAS MADE GREAT STRIDES SO FAR AND I THINK IT WOULD BE WRONG FOR HER NOT TO RUN TO KEEP HER SEAT. SHE IS VERY BRIGHT AND SHE HAS ALL HER FACULTIES. SHE SPEAKS SLOW BUT HER MIND IS SHARP.
IT’S A SHAME THAT AFTER WHAT HAD HAPPEN TO HER THAT THE HATE TALK TOWARDSW THE DEMOCRATS HASN’T STOPPED. AFTER ALL IT’S THE DEMOCRATS THAT CARE ABOUT THE 99% AND THE REPUBICAN-T-PARTY PEOPLE ONLY CARE ABOUT THE 1%. IT’S VERY OBVIOUS
