Riprap Project Nearing Conclusion At Madison’s B.B. Clarke Beach
One can never assume that Wisconsin fall weather will allow for outdoor projects to be completed in dry conditions, let alone pleasant temperatures. But for the most part that is exactly what has taken place in Madison, thus allowing for a much-needed shoreline restoration project to be nearing a conclusion at B.B. Clarke Beach.
Though work continues there is a strong sense that rough waves and high spring lake levels will have far less of an impact come 2012.
With James shown in some of the following pictures it is now time for a brief update on this isthmus riprap project on Lake Monona.
Where once there was a most unappealing weedy look along the shoreline there is now a freshly seeded covering along with special rocks to prevent erosion.
Much of the park has been covered with a mesh that will allow for new grass to burst forth come spring warmth and rains.
New sturdy looking storm drainage has been installed.
More than just rocks are being brought into the park. Many a dump truck of black rich-looking dirt has been mounded in a pile.
The efforts by this crew has resulted in a new stepping off area into the lake that will allow for those with a canoe or such fun activity to have better access.
So while the work continues…
…two things are clear.
A most wonderful beach and park in Madison is now prepared for many a wild storm that might be lashed against the shoreline. Next spring the special rooted plantings will take place, along with some new trees. There will also be new flowers along the beachhouse. (At the urging of……)
In addition, many a summer day will be just a little better for those who use B.B. Clarke Beach.
Madison can be proud to have restored this gem.

Thanks for the great reporting on B.B. Clark improvements! I’m so looking forward to launching my canoe now wintering on the rack in the park
