California Gay Marriage Ban Struck Down, Human Dignity Of Gays Underscored

February 7, 2012

This is the most welcoming of news, and one more step to the realization that all couples in this nation will have the right to marry.

A federal appeals court on Tuesday struck down Proposition 8, finding that California’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional because it deprives gay and lesbian couples of the equal right to wed.

With a decision that pushes the gay marriage issue a step closer to the U.S. Supreme Court, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld former San Francisco Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, who invalidated Proposition 8 in 2010 after conducting an unprecedented trial.

“Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples,” Judge Stephen Reinhardt wrote, joined by Judge Michael Daly Hawkins.

With the anal-retentive obsession in this country over separation of church and state it escapes me how Government tries to legislate something that is so obviously a function (and invention – sacrament) of the Church…. It’s not a legal issue – and it amazes me that the government and church work so close to preserve “marriage” to preserve “family” with the divorce rate where it is and the multitude of problems within marriage. What in the world are they trying to save??

As a conservative I say there is NO REASON that a gay couple should be denied the right to marry. This is not a sacrament that is solely for certain people it is for all. It is time that the prejudice of the extreme right in this country stop dividing this country. By acting this way you are no better then the progressives who want to control with their radical left agenda. Both of you must stop.
