Bat-Crap Crazy Rick Santorum Said Contraception Is “Not Okay”
The view-point that Rick Santorum has regarding contraceptives is just not acceptable. Society is not interested in his stunted view of sexuality, or his puritanical approach to issues where he has no right to be attempting to control.
I have no interest in knowing what Santorum does in his bedroom (ugh) and he surely has no right to know what anyone else does in their privacy. Since Santorum continues to attempt to separate birth control from health care, and also I might add sanity, then it is time to ramp up the attacks on this conservative and wipe him off the electoral map.
There just is no room for Santorum’s antiquated thinking about contraceptives in this country. Even his fellow Catholics sneer at the ridiculous nature of what he has to say about the matter.
Candidates often say things when polling in the single digits that come back to haunt them when they start leading the polls. Last October, Rick Santorum gave an interview with an Evangelical blog called Caffeinated Thoughts, in which he said contraception is “not okay,” and that this would be a public policy issue he would tackle as President. In particular, he said he would “get rid of any idea that you have to have abortion coverage or contraceptive coverage” as a government policy.
Here is what Santorum says.
One of the things I will talk about that no President has talked about before is I think the dangers of contraception in this country, the whole sexual libertine idea. Many in the Christian faith have said, “Well, that’s okay. Contraception’s okay.”
It’s not okay because it’s a license to do things in the sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. They’re supposed to be within marriage, they are supposed to be for purposes that are, yes, conjugal, but also [inaudible], but also procreative. That’s the perfect way that a sexual union should happen. We take any part of that out, we diminish the act. And if you can take one part out that’s not for purposes of procreation, that’s not one of the reasons, then you diminish this very special bond between men and women, so why can’t you take other parts of that out? And all of a sudden, it becomes deconstructed to the point where it’s simply pleasure. And that’s certainly a part of it—and it’s an important part of it, don’t get me wrong—but there’s a lot of things we do for pleasure, and this is special, and it needs to be seen as special.
Again, I know most Presidents don’t talk about those things, and maybe people don’t want us to talk about those things, but I think it’s important that you are who you are. I’m not running for preacher. I’m not running for pastor, but these are important public policy issues. These how profound impact on the health of our society.

Santorum has been irritating us lately. (Ew). So we wrote a song:

Santorum is living 100 plus years ago when women were bare foot and pregant. They also died in child birth and many women smothered unhealth newborns, for fear of the thought of others. Families needed many children to help work the farms. We have no family farms anymore. If santorum has his was we won’t have national parks or open space. He would open any space for big oil and big business. He was trouble for PA and we got rid of him I hope people don’t fall of any of his crazy ideas.
We have seperations of church and state and santorum is running on church only. He has blindered on in church teaching. He only worries about ruling women and what they could or could not do with their bodies. I wonder what he feels about men with ED, I hope he feels God is saying your too old to raise a child!
Who will raise unwanted unhealth children born to women whom did not want them! Hopefully all the people raising a big stink other right to life. We need a list of those people I could find many children born due to rape or drug addiction. No many of these children go to state run housing, needing 24 hour care. This is his way of small government.
Hate to break it to Santorum, but people don’t need a “license” to have sex, they’ve been doing it forever, having sex out of marriage, spreading stds, and yes, even having gay sex. Contraception just means kids don’t have to be the result. As to the argument that contraception cures no illness, having prenatal and birthing care increases infant and mother survival rates, so insurance to cover the costs is a good thing even though pregnancy isn’t an illness either.
I agree that contraceptives are a better alternative than abortion.
However, contracteptives are not a necessary healthcare item that the government should mandate all insurance policies cover. You can try to say that this is a “women’s health issue” but is isn’t in the sense that pregnancy–to anyone except the death-loving left–isn’t an illness. Contraceptives are a lifestyle choice. If we were to follow your line of reasoning, why not include heath club membership? Do “underserved” women have access? Then apply the same reasoning to any number of other “wants” and you get to the situation where nothing could be denied.
1) If you discriminate against gays, you’re a bigot.
2) If you discriminate against women, you’re a bigot.
3) If you hid your bigotry behind religion, you’re still a bigot.
1+2+3 = Santorum.
The precedent isn’t being set now, but rather this is a rejection of the historical precedent against women, largely by both parties. If you think “that Republicans might do it, too,” then you should turn around and realize that Republicans have already been doing it!
If you want to reduce abortions than contraceptives would seem to be a no-brainer. Preventative health care mesures are not only good medicine, but also cost effective. I have honestly never understood how anyone could argue those points, and esp. conservatives who love botton lines.
Brett:
How is what Santorum said “bigoted?”
It is reasonable to suggest that we should “get rid of any idea that you have to have abortion coverage or contraceptive coverage” as a government policy. What I mean by “reasonable” is that it is a position we might debate–and that we should debate.
Remember that when the next Republican administration comes into power (and who knows when that will be) there will be a history by that point of government mandating what can and cannot be covered. What one administration can mandate in, another can mandate out.
Don’t smear the Santorum. It hurts his feelings.

Poor guy, it takes a lot of emotional energy to spew all that bigoted vitriol.
