Republican Lawmaker Wants To Teach Female Constituents “Deportment And The Feminine Presence”

This is too stupid of an idea for words, and yet this really is an actual news story.
I had heard that someone in my family was trying to get another female family member to be ‘more feminine’, and I laughed at the whole idea. Too many people are trying to have others adapt to some preconceived notion of what the sexual roles should look like. In the end–both for my family member, and now the lawmaker–it comes off as just huge colossal blunders. Funny as hell, though.
A state lawmaker from Brooklyn has canceled an event for women to learn “posture, deportment and the feminine presence.”
Republican State Sen. Marty Golden sent out a mailing advertising the July 24 business etiquette event. His website said women would be taught to “sit, stand and walk like a model.”
But Golden canceled the event Tuesday after critics said he was out of touch with the lives of working women.
“You would think he would be aware enough to realize stating something like that is insulting to women,” said Julie Kirshner from the Brooklyn-Queens chapter of the National Organization for Women.

Maybe he wanted to teach them to stick their heads up an orifice and vote Republican against their self interest
When I was a young Hick, I was “compelled” to enroll in Charm School. Yes that was what it was truly called, and the curriculum involved how to sit, how to stand , talk, giggle, and wrap men around your lil finger (which I can still do) and even that old walk with a book on your head thing. We had excruciating lessons on feminine hygiene too, but of course it was all conducted in properly veiled language with no disturbing words used – stuff so convoluted that it would have confused Navajo Code Talkers. Class could have been over much quicker if they’d just said. “Use deodorant and a tampon, brush your teeth, take a shower. Class dismissed”. But no.
As I sprawled about the familial estate in my awkward and non-debutante-ish manner I was not unfamiliar with the maternal request for “a little more deportment please”. Seriously. Deportment.
As a result I have an inordinate fondness for F-Bombs, a bad attitude, and crappy clothes. So that all worked out really well then.
Your relatives should leave well enough alone.
