Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, Tennessee Will Hold Prayers Friday

I truly do not understand the backward thinking that is at the root of opposing an Islamic center.  For anyone to feel so shaky with their own religious beliefs that they would not allow others to worship is truly medieval thinking.

Conservatives can rant all they want about why government should be smaller.  But due to bigots of the conservative stripe, government had to intervene to allow this center to continue with construction and operation.

Federal prosecutors stepped in to protect the religious liberty of mosque members. A federal judge ruled in their favor, allowing construction and permitting to proceed.

While small minds in Tennessee used arson, vandalism and a bomb threat to close this center, the federal government made sure it would open.  That was the proper use of the Constitution.

Conservatives can now find some other red meat issue to howl over.

The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, has received a “temporary certificate of occupancy,” paving the way for its first prayer service on Friday after a two-year battle. 

Since the expansion project was approved in 2010, the construction site has been vandalized several times, including by an arsonist. “Not welcome” was spray-painted on a sign announcing the project. 

The plans included a 52,000-square-foot structure with a mosque, gym, playground and cemetery.
