The Grapes Of August
Many people think we only putter with flowers and shrubs in our little sanctuary. But a well placed plant that blends into the surroundings has made for lots of smiles here today.
Last year our grape harvest was dismal, as the season seemed not to allow for our plant to produce very many clusters. What was on the vines last year was taken by the squirrels. Grr!
This year we watered often during the drought, and kept a watchful eye for the ripening of the fruit, so to beat the animals to the harvest. Every day over the past week we have looked to see if the grapes had ripened to the point they could be picked. Each day just to be sure everything was going as it should we sampled the fruit. Really sweet tasting, and juicy!
Today James asked me to bring him two large bowls. In just a few minutes we thought it best to bring out the turkey roasters! It will be jelly making time here this weekend.
Next year with any luck we might need to have a Lucille Ball type grape-stomping event…

Nice harvest!
