Picture Of The Day From Wisconsin State Capitol
There was one scene today from the Sing-A-Long at the Wisconsin State Capitol that just stood out from all the rest.
Kneeling in the front of the statute of Fighting Bob LaFollette was a man writing a protest sign onto the cardboard container from a pizza box. As I took the picture I laughed to myself, “He is even a left-hander!”
It just evokes all that is so passionately felt and presented by those who attend every noon hour to sing protest songs in the Capital Rotunda.
I am sickened by those who speak about these singers as jobless with nothing else to do. I saw some who had left their jobs to come down and sing a few songs, only to return to their offices for afternoon work. Others have jobs that started in late afternoon, but felt it is so important to speak out about the state of affairs in Wisconsin that they took out time to make an appearance.
Being dismissive about the intent and background of the singers is one of the more base, and ill-considered actions by Republicans that has taken place this year in our state.
I would think if anyone wanted to see how the process of democracy works they might start by talking to one of the singers.
In fact, a high school student was there today to write a paper on protesting. He was making notes while tapping his foot to the singing.
I am sure he did not feel threatened, and had no need to call one of the all-too eager cops that hovered around today.
The cops at the Capitol reminded me of new mothers at a city park where their babes are about to play on the swings alone for the first time. Everyone needed to be monitored. Thankfully, I did not have to pee.
I also heard today that Capitol Police Chief David Erwin, the man who has provoked and stirred the protestors, is hardly ever seen under the rotunda.
He is a complete walking joke, and I think it wise if he is stationed behind a desk most of the time.
Meanwhile the singing continues every weekday at noon under the statehouse rotunda.
