Gun Control Question At Presidential Debate–ABOUT TIME!
On Tuesday morning I posted what I thought was needed for the debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney to have an effect on this race that would again benefit the administration.
I also added this thought.
I want to hear about gun control, and hope that one of the questioners has the mind to pose it as a question. (How we have gone this whole this fall and not had a serious discussion about it is truly off-the-wall.)
Hot Damn! Someone posed the question during the debate that many American have been asking for years.
In a nutshell the answers can be summed up this way.
President Obama said, “Weapons that were designed for soldiers… don’t belong on our streets.”
Gov. Romney said, “I’m not in favor of new gun laws.”
While I am not surprised that Romney would take such an attitude, I still do find it very troubling that someone who wants to lead the nation would not grasp the fact that guns are killing far too many of our fellow citizens.
I find it very concerning that Romney has no ability to understand that assault weapons do not have anything but a bloody and deadly outcome in too many of our neighborhoods in this land, and that to many families are burying the dead due to gun violence.
For mere votes and campaign cash Romney stood before the nation and basically denied the reality of gun violone.
It was very troubling to see.
Perhaps Romney’s Mormon underwear was to tight and creating blood loss to his brain.

SNL was right on when they parodied this question in their skit last Saturday. Woman questioner, “What will you do about gun violence?” “Governor Romney?” “Nothing.” President Obama?” “Nothing.”
As a south side resident of Chicago for nearly 25 years, one becomes accustomed to the violence that happens here weekly. 3-4 shootings is not out of the ordinary, and it hasn’t mattered who is running the country or city. The only thing that will stop this violence is a resounding step towards overcoming the diversity and racial issues, not gun control. Gun control just gives the already too powerful government a chance to crack down even more and take guns out the hands of people protecting their families or businesses from the violence. If an armed man breaks into my home, I want assurance for protection for me and my family. I have taught my son properly and I believe guns can be SAFE, when children and adults understand the consequences to abrupt and unwitting actions.
It all comes down to poverty. More than 3/4 of thefts in this city are income related and more than likely armed robberies. More created jobs for the poor or low income, confidence in public education, and aggressive anti-China tariff laws would be a smart step in the right direction if one wants to stop gun violence. Obama wants to create jobs no doubt, but by raising the cost of school loans and allowing the free market to run willy nilly isn’t going to help this anytime soon. I voted for him last time, but having serious doubts that he has made CHANGE his priority in 4 years of office.
It was an interesting question and one that made it clear both candidates feel we have enough gun laws on the books AND that we need to look at the underlying problems as to why some neighborhoods have so many problems. The latter is where the two differ and their solutions show why Romney fails at it every time.
Deke, I’m surprised you gave the President a pass on this issue. His answer was no better than Romeny’s. He’s done nothing on this issue for 3 1/2 years. I understand that political reality. But as soon as I heard both candidates talk about education as a solution, the B.S. meter went off the chart. Yeah, the answer to AK47s is midnight basketball and making art projects out of macaroni.
Romney may not want his church to lose income!

Romney took it a step further, blaming single-parent households for gun violence.
Romney has no empathy at all. His character is so hollowed out there that he can’t connect with the number of people in this country killed by guns much less their survivors. Romney has never been forced to confront the messy reality of life outside the gilded 1% he moves in. I’d say for him to even start becoming a fit man to lead, he’d need to spend the next 10 years as a homeless bum totally banned from his 1% associates and totally dependent on the kindnesses of strangers.
