A couple of weeks ago I posted what I consider one of the top 5 country music songs that have been recorded. Though very subjective, I offer another one today.
Classic county music at its heart is pure and simple. Songs of love, trains, and guitars make the music from decades past even more vital today, when compared with the often redneck style and tone of contemporary country. What makes each of my picks as best country music songs is that they are as powerful on paper, as when performed by an artist.
One name leads the way when it comes to the music that still resonates, and has meaning from the early days of county. Roy Acuff was not only a singer and musician, but also an entertainer in the fullest sense of the word. His long time at the Grand Ole Opry is legendary, and his signature sound and style is featured here on “Wabash Cannonball”, another of my top five.
