I think the use of fertility drugs can be a fine thing for a person/couple who has difficulty becoming pregnant. However, I read today that the mother who used fertility drugs that resulted in eight babies being born this week already has six children………..well……this is nuts.
The new mother is “fairly young” and lives with her parents and her six children. Sounds like the public gets to pay for these kids.
“Who am I to say that six is the limit?” said Dr. Jeffrey Steinberg, medical director of Fertility Institutes, which has clinics in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York City. “There are people who like to have big families.” Yeah, but why does the public need to end up paying for the children?
First I think we need to be conscious of over-populating the planet. There is a limit to the amount of resources that we can be expected to use, and to have a ‘need’ for a litter of children is just strange. This is no longer an agrarian econony where kids are used like mules.
Second, unless this family is in the top 1% of the wage earners in the nation there is NO way they will be able to raise the kids in an appropriate way. Can you imagine sending 14 kids to college!!
Clearly this was not a woman who should have been allowed to use fertility drugs. A doctor with any common sense or long range thinking, would have discouraged, and not enabled this woman from using these drugs.
Call me snarky on this one, but I think this is just not a healthy way to bring new lives into the world when clearly there will be issues over how they will be raised. In addition, one needs to consider what the mindset of a woman is when she views herself as a breeding machine.
Wasn’t six children enough?? And let us be reminded that she is being called ‘fairly young’.

She reminds me of a woman I know who keeps acquiring more cats. Breedermom’s parents are enabling her neurosis. Eventually, social services will have to come and rescue all 14 children from the squalor of their overcrowded family home. Who is fathering all of these children? And who paid for the fertility drugs?

Surprised not one newspaper article made a rude comment about the Mother’s ethnicity.
