RNC Head Michael Steele Thinks Abortion “An Individual Choice”

March 11, 2009

This is going to create a storm.

Can you see the clouds brewing in the west….head to the basement because all heck is about to blow.  The religious right is about to spaz out.  How long before green pea soup shoots out of their mouths?  Maybe Rush will pop that little plastic piece out of his skull on his show tomorrow.

In an interview with GQ, RNC Chairman Michael Steele made some statements that will likely be controversial with many of his Republican constituents.

On if women have the right to choose an abortion: “Yeah. I mean, again, I think that’s an individual choice.”

On whether homosexuality is a choice: “Oh, no. I don’t think I’ve ever really subscribed to that view, that you can turn it on and off like a water tap. Um, you know, I think that there’s a whole lot that goes into the makeup of an individual that, uh, you just can’t simply say, oh, like, ‘Tomorrow morning I’m gonna stop being gay.’ It’s like saying, ‘Tomorrow morning I’m gonna stop being black.'”

Steele is right on both counts obviously, but  he is going to have to wade through the nuts to get to shore on this one.

Lets see what the facts say……

Steele thinks Roe v. Wade should remain in place

Q: Would you hope the US Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade?
A: My desire is that we follow what stare decisis is at this point.

He has a better view on gays than many Republicans. His stance on abortion is clearly pro-life but he’s letting us think otherwise for the time being.

    Not anymore he doesn’t…
