Sign The Petition To Keep WSM Personality Keith Bilbrey On The Air

March 15, 2009

There is a mood in the country today to send a message to WSM Radio about the firing of WSM personality Keith Bilbrey after 30 years of professional broadcasting.  This has a direct impact on the Grand Ole Opry, and also contributes to the deterioration of radio in the country.

I know we gather here on this site for many reasons, and sometimes we agree, and sometimes we do not.   I trust however on this issue we all are of one mind, and I urge to sign the petition, and then send this post and information to all sorts of people on your email list.  We can make a difference!

letting keith bilbrey go from wsm reminds me of the porter waggoner song about brother eyre singing in the church choir. i wonder will they let keith announce up in heaven or will he be considered too old or too country or too out of touch. has wsm decided to cut all ties with what made country music great????? i can only pray not!!!!!

From a former Gaylord employee who was also “thrown out (in November of 1997), I see they are still making the same old mistakes and decisions. Keith was one of the best announcers ever on their radio

why would wsm let an announcer as good as keith bilbrey go? he is my favorite on the air personality. please rethank the decision, it is a big mistake you are making. keith deserves much more than this after 34 years on the air.

My father played on WSM when it was in the National Life Building with a group of country pickers. Judge Hay named them “The Fruit Jar Drinkers”. This was in November 1925. That program put WSM on the map. NOW some nitwit wants to destroy what they have built. It started out with what was called “WSM BarnDance”. I was in the studio at that time and when it was changed by Judge Hay to the “Grand Ole Opry.” Now you want to destroy that. Last night I was listening to the station at 6:30 and guess what they were playing – old POP Standards. Not the Friday Night Opry. I haven’t got a clue as to who the announcer was. Never heard him before and didn’t hear a name. The music he played was a mixture of “whatever” until Eddie came on. Now I ask you, is this the sort of thing the station is coming to, “Take What You Get? I have listened to the station for 83 years and never turned it off until last night. I was so disappointed with the NEW format. Eddie’s part was great as usual. But, until then it was nothing to write home about. Just mish-mush. Please, you are making a mistake but you still have time to correct it. I urge you, for the sake of the listeners as well as the sponsors you are probably going to lose, CHANGE YOUR MIND, KEEP KEITH AND COUNTRY MUSIC ON WSM. If you don’t remember this, “It’s very easy to turn a radio off.”

I have been associated with the Grand Ole’ Opry for more than 25 years and have listened to, and appreciated Keith Bilbrey’s talent during that time. I cannot imagine what would prompt such a move by WSM, but I am not surprised. Gaylord has continously shocked the community and the listening audiences since it acquired Opryland, Opryland Hotel and WSM (which includes the Grand Ole’ Opry) The corporation has admitted to making a huge mistake by closing the Opryland park but apparently did not learn by their mistake. Why continue to tear apart, piece by piece ,person by person a successful piece of history? Keith Bilbrey is part of that success. Everyone wants to know what is going on?

After what they did to Opryland Theme park, nothing surprises me.The board room pretty well got cleaned out after no good reason was found for their actions.Well apparently nothing changed. They continue to make one stupid mistake after another. Why in the hell would they do that to
Keith.I have never seen such a stupid mistake, well since their last one.I guess that’s what you get after 32 years of loyal service. They should be ashamed…………Jim

Keith was a really great DJ and didn’t deserve this. It is sad time for true opry fans.
