Why Was This Madison City Employee Working On Easter?

April 12, 2009

Essential city services in Madison are naturally needed even on Holidays, such as Easter.  I am more than happy to see Madison’s city employees paid for their time.  But I was struck with a question in my mind about the large city dump truck, (the traditional light tanned variety) that was on John Nolen Avenue Sunday afternoon with a large blue trash dumpster in the back.  The male driver took the turn in the direction of the city street works on Olin Avenue.

I hope that the worker was doing some essential service that was required for an Easter Sunday, and not doing some job, and being paid holiday wages, for a project that could have waited until normal work hours on Monday.

Just wondering.
