Pictures: June Dairy Month At Dane County Farmers’ Market

June 6, 2009

The skies may have been cloudy, and the breezes much cooler than most wanted, but there was great enthusiasm among the crowd at Saturday’s Dane County Farmers’ Market on the Capitol Square in Madison.  And for good reason.  June Dairy Month was being recognized, and celebrated!

Liam, the young person who won the cream-puff eating contest was a natural as the crowd roared their approval for his chowing down one of the tasty treats.   After the contest was over he was happy to pose for the cameras.  The county fair’s pie-eating contest is only a couple months away!!

There was plenty of ice-cream and milk products for everyone at the market, but the longest line as it is every year, was for the famed toasted cheese sandwiches.

Each year June Dairy Month is recognized at the market with the famous ‘Cows On The Concourse’.  The cows are wonderful to see, but it is the kids interacting with the animals that make the event an annual must-see.

did they have them bottles of sanitizer after the kids (and adults) petted (pet?sp)the animals before they ate their ice cream and cheese sammiches? ‘Member a couple years ago when a bunch of people got sick at the pancake breakfast at the UW stock pavillion? That musta been embarassing, having everyone know you don’t wash your hands
