Tea Party Nominee Joe Miller And Hitler’s Germany

When a candidate, regardless of party, attacks the free press and reporters whose job it is to disseminate information and inform the public…..well…then as Merle Haggard would say……you’re on the fighting side of me.

This blog was a few themes that run constantly and consistently.

1) The process of government is important and must be followed.

2) Civil rights and equal rights are never old-fashioned or to be thought of as ‘special rights’.

3) Journalists and reporters are just as important to the foundation and freedoms of this nation as are those who serve in uniform.

Therefore…..

This action as detailed below about teabagger Joe Miller is absolutely unconscionable and must be talked about coast-to-coast.  The action of handcuffing a reporter and not allowing him to do his work as a reporter harkens back to what we all know too well…those who read history will understand…..of what took place in Hitler’s Germany.  A candidate may think he does not have to talk about his past as Miller has stated.  In fact, Miller let it be known he will no longer answer anything about his past to any reporter.  It was for that reason when a reporter pressed the matter that the handcuffs were used.

But in America candidates do not get to set the rules such as this.  Hitler controlled the media and curtailed information.  But here in America reporters are not shackled to a chair because they press for information.

Whatever is taking place among a certain segment of the teabagging electorate needs to be called out for what it is.  There is an insane segment of the citizenry that thinks we don’t care and are going to cave in and accept this crap.

I will not.

While some might think it cheap of me to link Miller and Hitler, so be it.  But when the facts link the two, then it is more than fair to wed them.  When Miller wants to act like an American again, let him come forward.  Until then he is nothing more than a ……how would Hitler say it…. arschloch.

According to news reports, Miller’s private security guards on Sunday handcuffed and detained the founder and editor of an Alaska news web site in a public middle-school hallway.

The school was the site of a town-hall meeting. After the meeting,  as Tom Hopfinger of the Alaska Dispatch attempted to question Miller, the security guards moved in and, according to Hopfinger, told him he was trespassing.

When Hopfinger asked them to explain themselves, they handcuffed him until, as Hopfinger puts it, he was freed 30 minutes later by the Anchorage police.

Hopfinger has his version of the story on his web site. An excerpt:

Hopfinger was reportedly pressing Miller on whether the candidate had ever been reprimanded for politicking while working at the Fairbanks North Star Borough in 2008. Alaska Dispatch and other media have sued for the release of records related Miller’s time at the borough. Various accounts of what happened next generally agree on this course of events:

  • Two or three bodyguards told Hopfinger to stop asking questions and to leave the building.
  • Hopfinger continued to ask questions while apparently videotaping the candidate.
  • Bodyguards told him that if he persisted they would arrest him for trespassing, but refused to identify themselves to Hopfinger.
  • Hopfinger asked why he was trespassing, as the event was at a public school. Seconds later, he was then put in arm-bar and later handcuffed and sequestered at one end of a hallway for at least 30 minutes. He was told, “You’re under arrest.”
  • Anchorage Police arrived on the scene shortly after.
