Why Will Elevators In Wisconsin State Capitol Be Shut Down On Inauguration Day?
I have been to all of the inaugurations of Wisconsin governors since 1987. (Tommy Thompson’s first one) Never have I heard of the elevators being shut down in the statehouse on that day. This seems a horrible way to start the Scott Walker term in office. Is this an attempt to limit access to our state government?

Due to our support of Inauguration, Monday, January 3rd the Assembly Sergeant at Arms Office will be closing at 12:30 pm. If Session is completed before 5 pm we will reopen, otherwise our office will reopen at 8:00 am Tuesday, January 4th.
If you have errands to be completed on Monday please try to plan ahead and call in the morning. We appreciate your cooperation.
FYI all passenger elevators except one in the south wing will be shut down from 8:45 to 1:00 p.m. on Inauguration Day.

It would be helpful to any elders or handicapped individuals to actually have access to elevators. I really do not understand the thinking that shutting down elevators is a good idea at all. A very poor beginning for accessibility rights message of the new administration.
In Milwaukee County there was no end for the outright disdain that Walker had for the disabled. What we knew here is now what the whole state is about to be made aware of.
Apparently, the Walker administration to be, doesn’t think we know how to use the stairs. Duh!
The elevators in the Capitol are so slow it’s easier to just take the stairs anyway.
