The Illinois Supreme Court ruled today that former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel meets the residency requirements to run for Chicago mayor, overturning a lower court ruling and re-installing him as the race’s frontrunner.
“This is a situation in which, not only did the candidate testify that his intent was not to abandon his Chicago residence, his acts fully support and confirm that intent,” the court wrote in the ruling, which you can read in full here.
Wonder how many tax dollars were spent on figuring this one out
gunowner,
When issues of due process, constitutional concerns, or any other such question arises I sincerely do not feel that the issue of money required to defend or define the legal matter is of concern.
While I do think that the legal issue of his residency was bogus, and has now been proved to be so, the legal dollars spent in determing the outcome is not concerning.
Democracy allows for the legal arena to be used, and we should rejoice in that. It is part of what defines our states and nation as a great place to live.
