WEAC Wants All Teachers At Madison Statehouse Thursday And Friday

February 16, 2011

I am a strong supporter of Wisconsin teachers and labor unions.  I also know the strong show of outage these past days in Madison over Governor Walker’s union busting bill has been making not only loud noise in the Capitol, but nervous stomachs among some legislators.

And that is a damn fine thing.

This union busting bill needs to die.

I am very proud of the teachers that have taken time to stand shoulder to shoulder at the statehouse.  The spirited high school students who have joined in the cause are to be applauded too.

Now comes news that WEAC is urging all teachers statewide to be in Madison Thursday and Friday and ramp up to the heat on the Walker and Company.

I’m amazed that people can’t see that the real problems of Wisconsin and other states is the dramitic changes that have happened in the last 10 years: Recession/dpression, outsorcing of jobs, factories closing, high energy, health and health insurance costs.

We should be solving these problems, not pointing fingers at our neighbors working for the state. Instead we blame our public employees, and try to take their legal collective bargaining rights away.

I believe that the 14 amendment to the constitution states that individual groups cannot be singled out to lose their collective bargaing rights.

Wisconsin is a great state which has been #1 in the nation in ACT scores several times…lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I seriously question all those who side with Herr Walker – what if it were you or your family on the ‘chopping block’???? – bet you would sing a whole different song!

Every teacher that calls in sick to protest should be fired and stripped of their license. These are not the people I would want to teach my kids. Any teacher that would choose to protest rather than be in the classroom is not truly interested in teaching. Rather, they are more interested in self advancement and greed.

I was so proud of the green bay school board denying the teachers request to close schools. It’s nice to see one district puts the students first.
