Republicans Create ‘Birther’ Issue, Then Blast Obama For Responding

April 27, 2011

I swear to God, no one could make this stuff up.

First conservative Republicans create a racist argument about the place of birth for President Obama.  Then when the President wants to stop the blather by releasing his long-form birth certificate the Republicans complain that he is wasting time talking about it.

Really….this is just unbelievable.

A statement after Obama spoke, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus called the issue a distraction — and yet blamed Obama for playing campaign politics by addressing it.

“The president ought to spend his time getting serious about repairing our economy,” Priebus said. “Unfortunately his campaign politics and talk about birth certificates is distracting him from our number one priority — our economy.”

Given the bizarre events to which Wisconsinites have been subjected since the beginning of this year, there should be absolutely no surprise Mr. Priebus’ rhetoric indicates there isn’t ANYTHING President Obama could do that would meet with approval from the Tea Party. Wisconsin may be the birthplace of the Republican Party, but what Mr. Priebus and Gov. Walker and the Fitzgerald “Boys” and Sarah Palin are doing has NOTHING to do with the real Republican Party politics. They’ve co-opted the name, but they’re just not real Republicans, like Abraham Lincoln, Mel Laird, and Warren Knowles. Their politics are an amalgam of various Fascist entities. But there really is one benefit to all of this nonsense. As insulting as it is to any thinking Wisconsinite, Priebus’ vile rhetoric and bully-boy tactics are motivating folks who would normally not bother with politics to support a more reasonable approach offered by the moderate coalition of Democrats, public workers, students, and taxpayers growing weary of the no-compromise-take-no-prisoners game-playing of the Tea Party.
