Dad’s Favorite Flower Among Summertime Blooms

July 17, 2011

It is not an expensive plant.  Some might even call it a weed.  It is, after all, a part of the thistle family.  But it was my dad’s favorite blooming plant, and as such it has a nice prominent place for the past couple years in our gardens.  The blooms have a nice texture when gently felt, is a great draw for the bumblebees, (my favorite) and is one that makes for conversation with those passing by.

The daylilies are blooming in all varieties of color and make for eye-catching moments.  Mother Nature’s version of shock and awe is clearly underway.

The Yucca is in bloom too on long stalks that seem oblivious in the wind.  (Thankfully)
