Myrtle Rose Too Stupid To Ever Fly Her Plane Again

August 6, 2011

One of the more preposterous stories that took place this week was the incident in the air over the skies of Chicago.

We all have our stories of elderly people who get on the highway and drive in a most unusual fashion.  Or we have stories of older drivers backing out of a straight driveway, only to somehow veer madly to the left and land on the lawn.  When it happens it is comical, as no one is hurt.

But when it comes to the safety of the skies, and F-16s have to be scrambled because a silly rich woman is in a plane with her radio off, her onboard computer not working,  and she thinks the military jets are there to admire her ‘cute’ airplane…….

WHAT!

If this all happened with the same explanations from a driver on the beltline in Madison I strongly suspect the cops would wonder about the sobriety of the driver.

There is only one thing to do in this case.

The FAA must yank Myrtle Rose’s right to fly her own plane anymore.

Granted she is a very wealthy Republican, but even they have to abide by the rules of air traffic safety.

Myrtle Rose was taking a short flight over suburban Chicago when the 75-year-old aviation enthusiast looked out her cockpit window to see two F-16 fighter jets.

She assumed the pilots were slowing down to get a closer look at her antique plane.

It wasn’t until she landed her 1941 Piper J-3 Cub that friends and the police told her the attention was more serious – as Myrtle had strayed into restricted airspace during a visit by President Barack Obama.

Rose normally uses her computer to check for airspace restrictions, but it wasn’t working properly.

To make matters worse, she said, “I didn’t have my radio on. I was just flying around.”

Rose said she was about 50km from O’Hare Airport when her plane was intercepted. As the fighters appeared, she wasn’t alarmed.

“I thought, ‘Oh, well, they’re just looking at how cute the Cub is’,” she said yesterday.

Another Norad representative suggested Rose had no business thinking that a military jet racing towards her would be in any way related to the cuteness of her plane.

“The biggest thing to keep in mind is that when F-16s come screaming up to you, they are probably trying to tell you something,” spokeswoman Stacey Knott said.

Yes, stupid. The senile old biddy didn’t even have the mother wit to turn on her radio when she saw fighters screaming up to her.

This witling is a danger to civil aviation and should have her pilot’s license suspended immediately for such a boneheaded, rookie mistake. She should also be fined the full cost of scrambling those fighters to intercept her.

We’re facing budget crises, but wealthy Republicans can only insist on their privileges while screaming about no new taxes, while they spend, spend, spend the country’s money without worrying about where the money’s coming from. This time, the money needs to come from Myrtle’s pocket. If she had any personal integrity at all, she’d reimburse the country for what her stupid stunt cost it. But Republican doesn’t seem to go with integrity.

R.J. you say you are a pilot and that this wasn’t unsafe. How’d you like to be sharing your sky with live ordnance deployed to shoot that aircraft down? Sure hope they don’t miss. By the way, if you think flying into restricted airspace is trivial, it’s time you turned in your own pilot’s license.

I won’t bother to argue anything posted that comes down to personal opinion, but to imply that Ms. Rose’s flight was somehow unsafe or threatens “the safety of the skies,” you couldn’t be more wrong. Was she uninformed and slightly foolish? Yes. Did she respond with naivety to the fighters? Absolutely. Unsafe? Not a chance. If not for the fact of the president being 30+ miles away, this would have been an ordinary, uneventful and SAFE flight for her.

Why do you and I have to pay $9,000 an hour for two F-16 to intercept this old woman? Ground her dumb butt.

    Shantly,

There is no hate…but I do have a thing about stupidity…always have. And the comment that this lady thought F-16s were coming close to her to get a better view of an old plane…….yeah….stupid!

Lots of anger in that article; why all the hate?

In the current U.S. (and worldwide) economic and security turmoil, this rich and stupid woman can, at least, reimburse the cost of the F-16 interception and investigation that were required because of either her pure stupidity or intentional ignorance.

Very wealthy? Try beyond wealthy, and what difference does her political affiliation make??
