Does this mean that Sarah Palin will rescue the Republican Party by launching her bid for the White House? Or will that just shackle her? What a statement that was last week!
With the news from Christie it looks like the GOP be stuck with Mitt Romney as their nominee? There will be an establishment candidate leading the GOP in 2012.
I think this news is best regarding Christie, and I am sincere about this, as his health is not good.
There is no way that someone can exert the amount of energy and constant strain that a national campaign for the White House demands, and at the same time be as obese as the New Jersey Governor. No one wants to see a health disaster in real-time, and that is what very likely would have happened had Christie decided to run at this time.
Republican Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey will announce he will not run for president in 2012, according to a GOP source in New Jersey.
The first-term governor, who has considered launching a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, will make the announcement at a news conference in Trenton on Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET.
How appalling to read that you discriminate against people who are overweight. And you’re psychic too, apparently, as you know what would happen to him if he had decided to run. It’s amazing how Winston Churchill managed to be overweight yet lead his country through World War II and live another 20 years to boot.
Are you as condescending to overweight people in person as you are in your blog?
I stand by exactly what I said. And if you had been reading the columns last week from others you noted I am not alone in how I size up the matter. In fact I sourced them here on my blog. And I was much more gentle in my posting as you will note.
One national writer penned, “Look, I’m sorry, but New Jersey Governor Chris Christie cannot be president: He is just too fat”
I know we live in Madison and everyone is supposed to PC.
I am a liberal, but that does not mean my brain is not wired to know up from down. This blog states exactly how I feel. If you agree, great. If not, that is great too. I am not here to sells ads, or win an election.
Instead this blog is designed to comment on the issues of the day, or the whims of the moments that strike my fancy. If in the process I strike a nerve, well good.
I do trust that there are some points on which we can agree.
Thanks for commenting.
Had Christie entered the GOP race, do you think that the more right-wing members of the Republican party would have embraced him?
Ahab,
That is the big question that no one will now be able to answer. He has taken a lot of positions that are not ‘conservativ enough’. But on the flip side the Tea Party seems to like the high-action types so perhaps Christie’s style could have side-tracked some of their more base instincts about being ‘red-meat’ enough. We will just never know. I do know in my heart Christie will not be asked to be VP for Romney.
