Very Pleased That WGN Radio News Anchor Steve Bertrand Moving To Jonathan Brandmeir Morning Show

December 2, 2011

Yes, CP is one happy place today as the news just keeps getting better and better from WGN radio.

With the immediate departure of Greg Jarrett as the morning drive-time host, and the announcement that famed broadcaster Jonathon Brandmeier will take over starting December 7th comes more good news.

My favorite news announcer at WGN radio, and one that James always enjoys to hear as well, will be moving to mornings and working with Brandmeir.

Steve Bertrand has one of those comfortable and professional voices that is just right for any place on the radio dial.  When Kathy and Judy were on the WGN airwaves  it was a natural fit as he reported the news, but also added insight and banter with ‘the girlfriends’.

Steve Bertrand began as an intern at WGN Radio in 1984. He was hired full time in 1985.  His awards include a Chicago Headline Club Peter Lisagor award in 1999 and an Associated Press award for Best Investigative reporting in 1991.  Bertrand attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, and earned degrees in Journalism and Political Science.

I am delighted that Bertrand will be a part of the new morning team on WGN radio.

I couldn’t agree more: A great move for WGN and Steve Bertrand. What I DON’T understand is what happened to Steve and Johnny? I don’t understand WGN’s decision with Steve and Johnny. WHY, WHY, WHY?? They kicked John Williams out of the early morning spot in less than 6 months; they let Mr. Jarrett veg out for 30 months and they unceremoniously kick out icons like Kathy and Judy and now Steve and Johnny in a matter of days. Really stupid.
