Jon Huntsman Will Endorse Mitt Romney For President

January 15, 2012

The establishment wing of the Republican Party is making a statement.

This vicious nomination process must end, and the Tea Party will just have to suck it up and accept Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee.   There can  not be an endless blood-letting that ruins the chance of the GOP winning in November just so the fringe element can keep on throwing stones.

Jon Huntsman, the former Utah governor will end his own candidacy for the GOP nomination on Monday.  With that act, not only Huntsman, but the party is sending a clear signal.  This nomination fight has to end soon, and hopefully in Flordia at the end of the month.  Candidates who can no longer stand, but instead just limp along from state to state must not mar the chances for the GOP nominee, Mitt Romney.

That is just how politics is played.  So Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum should be taking note of what Huntsman will do.  The classy thing is to take a graceful bow and get off the stage.

I have long felt that Huntsman was the best candidate running in the GOP field, at least on paper.  He is smart, worldly, had a keen sense of foreign policy, and understood that this country needs to mend politically.  Huntsman never played low-ball politics in his race, and for that he can always be proud.

If Mitt Romney were to win the White House there are many reasons to find a place for Huntsman in the cabinet.  One thing is for sure, the former Utah governor will not be the VP nominee.  There can only be one Mormon on the ticket at a time.    (Or do you just want to see the head of an evangelical explode?)

This race was over long ago. Newt Gingrich is just in the race for vanity and to increase the fee he charges for his speeches. Rick Santorum doesn’t have anything else to do. This is the weakest field ever for either party’s nomination process.

Huntsman is just preserving his options for 2016. No class, no statesmanship there, in November, Romney was “unelectable” and last weekend, Romney was more interested in raising money and crticizing Huntsman for serving his country in China (according to Huntsman). Today, he’s better than sliced (White) bread. And grandpa McCain (get off my lawn!), who in 2008 was criticizing Romney for Bain closing factories and throwing people out of work, was on Meet the Press Sunday saying no big deal. Straight Talk Express my hiney! Until the American people revolt and get a decent presidential nominating process, they deserve exactly what they get, John Kerry in April so the republicans have 6 months to beat him up, and Willard in January 2012. (and Mike Dukakis and Bob Dole). It didn’t hurt the Dems last time to go till June. Until the rest of the U.S. demands that Iowa coercing money out of candidates in their manufactured event straw poll fundraiser in the previous August and cauci where 120,000 people caucus, and New Hampshire where 250,000 people vote, we can predict the quality of the Nov. ticket. And then the rest of us should accept their choices? Crazy I tells ya. So far, Romney has 13 of 2,286 delegates (Paul 9 and Santorum 6) and it should be over? I hope that Ron Paul stays in for the duration, and the 60 to 75% percent of Republicans who don’t want Romney (and dems and independents in open primary states, like Wisconsin) vote for Paul and send the powers that be a message. I know I will in April. Wouldn’t it be great to send a Paul delegation from Wisconsin to Tampa!
