Prince William Flies Over Falklands In Sea King, What Message Does This Send?

This is needless provocation.

Prince William took to the skies over the Falkland Islands today on his first sortie as an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot.

William arrived on the archipelago this week amid escalating tensions between Britain and Argentina over the disputed region.

The pilot prince has been branded a ‘pirate prince’ by protestors.

All this happens at a very stressed time in relations between Britain and Argentina.

The deployment comes as the Royal Navy sends one of its latest warships, the Type 45 destroyer HMS Dauntless, to the region on her maiden voyage.

The Royal Navy has said the Portsmouth-based destroyer’s deployment has been planned for a long time, and is not a reaction to heightened tensions over the Falklands.

Eight Sailors Discharged From Navy Following Hazing Incident

Good.

These are not the types of military personnel that should be paid for with taxpayer dollars.  Act right, or ship off.

Eight enlisted sailors have been booted from the Navy after an investigation into a hazing incident aboard the San Diego-based amphibious assault ship Bonhomme Richard, a Navy spokesman said Saturday.

The eight were allegedly involved in assaulting and choking a sailor as part of an initiation rite, the spokesman said, adding that the Navy has a “zero-tolerance” policy toward such initiations and hazing.

The eight received general discharges after a “captain’s mast” proceeding held by the ship’s commander, Capt. J.L. Harnden. Although each could have appealed the captain’s decision, none has done so, and all are now out of the Navy, the spokesman said.

Newt Gingrich To Hold Strange Press Conference After Nevada Caucus

Speculation is running wild about the purpose of this odd timing for a press conference from the former Speaker of the House.  Given the over-sized ego of Newt Gingrich I can not fathom his admitting defeat and dropping out of the presidential race.

So then what will he have a press conference for at such a late hour?

Instead of the traditional election night party, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will hold a press conference after the Nevada Caucus on Saturday, raising new speculation about his future in the race.

An e-mail sent to reporters on Saturday morning set the Las Vegas press conference for 11 p.m. to midnight Eastern time. It will be held at the Venetian, a hotel run by Sheldon Adelson, who has donated millions of dollars to the pro-Gingrich super PAC Winning Our Future.

Might the press conference be to announce a “love that dare not speak its name” between Gingrich and his sugar-daddy, Adelson?

GOP Candidate Mark Neumann Received $750,000 In Tax Credits And Government Grants

At the end of the news account about Mark Neumann in the print edition of  the Wisconsin State Journal it was noted the GOP Senate hopeful contacted the AP and told them he had received $750,000 in tax credits and aids from the federal government.

For a teabagger that is a lot of benefits.

Considering that Neuman rants against stimulus funding, and other programs aimed at helping steer the economy onto firmer ground it was not the best look to be placing before the voters.

This week has not been a good one for the Neumann campaign as the past business practices of the candidate played out in newscasts and papers.  No one is surprised that this is happening.  We all know businessmen say one thing and do another all the time.  There is no way to overstate the distance between business and ethics, and Mark Neumann is making that very clear for all to see.

At the end of this news story there should be a required line that reads, “Hypocrisy never looks good on a political candidate.”

Solar energy companies owned by a tea party Republican running for an open  U.S. Senate seat in Wisconsin who is strongly opposed to the 2009 federal  stimulus package have received $500,000 in grants under the program.

The Associated Press first reported Thursday that GOP candidate Mark  Neumann’s company Neumann Solar Leasing received about $81,000 in grants last  year. But Neumann said Friday that company and another one, MN Solar Leasing,  had gotten even more in stimulus grants and other tax credits.

Russia And China Prevent UN From Passing Syria Resolution

This is wrong.  Not unexpected, but still wrongFrom CNN.

A U.N. Security Council draft resolution intended to pressure Syria to end its months-long crackdown on anti-government demonstrators failed on Saturday after China and Russia voted against it.

At least 7,100 people, including 461 children, have died since the start of the Syrian uprising in March, according to a Syrian opposition group.

The United Nations estimated in December that more than 5,000 people had died since March. But the global body has not been able to update that figure because of the insecurity.

CNN cannot independently confirm opposition or government reports from Syria because access to the country is limited.

Last week I wrote the following about the killings in Syria.

Both China and Russia may desire a Syrian-led political process to lead to a settlement.  But there is an energy and fervor that has been unleashed and aided by social networks and past success in other ’Arab Springs’ that will not temper the people in the streets of Syria.  They want Assad gone from power, and the great world powers that stand in the way of that happening are only prolonging the inevitable. Prolonging it with many needless deaths.

At some point there will be new rulers in Syria, and they will assess who came to their aid at the time they needed it most.  It would be most beneficial if the United States and the West could be the good guys in the eyes of Syria.

Kathleen Falk To Visit With Citizens Who Want To Take Back Wisconsin

Kathleen Falk will be touring the state next week while talking with citizens about their concerns over what government acts like since Governor Scott Walker used his partisan power play to attack workers in Wisconsin.

Never before has our state been so divided, or our politics so corrosive.  We know why we are at this place in Wisconsin.  We also know the way forward.

A massive recall petition effort allowed for 1 million citizens and taxpayers to voice their deep concern and displeasure with what has happened to our state.    To address those concerns, and turn the state around Kathleen Falk has entered the recall race to remove Walker from office.

Everyone is aware that Governor Walker DID NOT place the topic of collective bargaining on the campaign table in 2010.  He only sprang the idea of attacking public workers and state employees by ending collective bargaining after he was sworn into office.  Then with a series of short-cuts, and ‘creative’ moves Walker and Company abused the process of government to get what they wanted.  Walker was  to0 afraid to campaign on collective bargaining, or have a real dialogue with the people on the issue.  Once elected he thought he could do whatever he wanted.

That is not the way things are done in Wisconsin!

Scott Walker will find that out for himself at the polls when Kathleen Falk challenges him for governor that there is a process to government that must be followed.

This coming week Falk will be visiting a number of Wisconsin cities to talk and present ideas on how we get out of the ditch that Walker has driven us into.  For all those who think we can not turn this mess around, have faith, help is on the way.  Only a few more months before Wisconsin voters will recall Scott Walker.

In the meantime come out and say hello to Kathleen Falk!
